My name is Mariam Elsharkawy, and I am the founder of The Plastic Pollution Solution, established in 2019 as part of my girl scout Gold Award. I created this non-profit organization after watching our society continue to produce unsustainable amounts of plastic, the majority of which end up in the ocean or landfills. Knowing that this issue was, in part, due to the general ignorance of most people, I decided to create an awareness campaign to teach people the fundamentals of recycling, how to avoid common plastics, and inexpensive alternatives to single-use plastics.

Established in 2019, we’re a non-profit organization driven by the need for environmental awareness and fighting plastic pollution across the globe. The Plastic Pollution Solution emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community in their fight against plastic pollution. We have found that most people do not truly understand the harmful effects of plastic pollution, and seek to better educate global citizens on how to better recycle, avoid common single-use plastic products, and find solutions to this global issue.
